"
Air Berlin To Begin Flights Out Of Ulster"

Friday 17th March 2006 - Newsletter

By Adrienne McGill

Air Berlin is to begin flights between Belfast and London, opening up eight new European destinations to travellers from Northern Ireland.

Flights will begin on May 2 between Belfast City airport and Air Berlin's hub at London-Stansted, allowing passengers to connect with services to Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hanover, Leipzig, Munster/Osnabruck, Nuremberg, Paderborn and Vienna.

Passengers will be able to check-in at Belfast City for these services and connect to them through Stansted.

The Belfast-to-Stansted service will depart morning and evening each way during the week with one flight each way on Saturday and Sunday.

Brian Ambrose, Chief Executive of Belfast City Airport, said the opportunities created by these new routes for both business and leisure traffic were very significant.

"Germany is a hugely important market for Northern Ireland and this development means that many regions in Germany are more accessible than ever before.

"Northern Ireland has long been a popular destination for German visitors and this move by Air Berlin will further enhance the accessibility of Northern Ireland to the German market."

Flights from Belfast to Stansted start at £19 one-way and from £29 to European destinations.

Air Berlin flights are low-cost but full-service, offering customers free food and drinks, flight flexibility, air miles and baggage transfer for connecting passengers.

Flights can be booked on Air Berlin's website, www.airberlin.com, at travel agents or by telephone at the company's service centre on 08707 388 880.

Air Berlin is the second-biggest German airline after Lufthansa and one of the leading low-fare carriers in Europe.

The airline flies from Germany to 48 destinations in Europe and North Africa and, in recent years, has been extending its network to include many of the Spanish holiday destinations such as Palma and the Balearic islands.
