"More jobs in the bag at airport's"
Belfast
Telegraph - 11th April 2007
The wraps today came off a £100,000 investment
which is to create 20 new jobs at Belfast's two airports.
Two new services, Bag Safe and Bag Tag, are set for take-off tomorrow at Belfast
International Airport and George Best Belfast City Airport.
The company behind the service says they are designed to give travellers more
peace of mind when they check in.
Julie Halliday, regional manager for Bag Safe and Bag Tag, said that with
310,000 pieces of luggage going missing worldwide every month, air travellers
were increasingly anxious about the safety of their baggage.
She said: "Bag Safe is a luggage shrink wrap which prevents tampering
with luggage, while Bag Safe prevents damage to suitcases and bags. A number
of international airlines already insist upon luggage being wrapped before
check-in as this can save them the cost of people claiming for damage which
can occur during movement."
Bag Safe and Bag Tag will operate at the entrance to the terminals at Belfast
International and City Airport, using space recently vacated by the x-ray
search machines.
Bag Tag is a global online tracking system which gives luggage a metal, permanently
attached identification tag, unique to its owner. Ms Halliday said the tracking
ensured that passengers were quickly re-united with missing items of baggage.
If passengers change their travel plans, they can update their itinerary online.
Bag Safe costs £5 a time, with reductions for bulk bookings, while Bag
Tag costs £10 for the first year, and £3 to renew for a second
year.
